ABOUT US

Cities   •  Heritage  •   Architecture  or The CHA Project is a Design and Placemaking Lab based in Singapore and working in collaboration with INTACH Calcutta Chapter.

WHAT WE DO

We design interventions to make public spaces come alive. Our vision for Cheenapara with vibrant food streets and night markets (left) and our Transport Oriented Development strategy for Tangra (below).

DESIGN

Whether it is designing the largest Media Centre in India (left) or a simple brochure for piped water in rural Bengal, we believe design is about problem solving and smart design can be a real force for good.

CULTURAL PLACEMAKING

We leverage the power of the arts, culture, design and community to energise urban spaces, spur economic growth, and revitalise disinvested communities.

STRATEGIC PLACEMAKING

Bringing together govt agencies, stakeholders, businesses, citizens, corporates and NGOs in a coordinated effort to inject vibrancy into public spaces.

HERITAGE CONSERVATION

For us, heritage conservation means keeping alive the soul of the city. It is about preserving both tangible and intangible heritage. Conservation is pointless without economic viability; we help stakeholders understand the value of adaptive re-use.

RESEARCH

We go into meticulous historical research, surveys, documentation and into acquiring a deep understanding of the architectural structure of buildings, the cultural history of the area and the community.

SOCIAL IMPACT DESIGN

We take special interest in projects and people that make the world a better place, providing pro bono design, branding, content services to micro businesses, NGO and  social enterprises.

RECOGNITION

Our vision for a pavilion (left) in Kolkata Chinatown, inspired by the 2,500 yr old, nail-less technique of Dougong won a prestigious SIDA Award for JIA Studios.
